02/06/10 – Tile/Flooring/Doors
February 6, 2010, 2:34 pm

The tile is all finished.  The hardwood is also finished.  We had some complications with our interior doors because 2 of them were sent wrong.  We ended up getting some basic stock doors from HD and they are going to install those and then when our regular doors come in (2weeks) we will swap out the slab part of the door!  Seemed to be an easy fix, but I did have some frustrations with the HD employee who was not very nice to me (and made me cry)…Trent took care of it though and called up and spoke to him and his manager and was able to get us our doors for free and an apology :-)  We also got all of our Kraftmaid cabinets delivered yesterday.  A bulldozer or something had to help pull the delivery truck up the hill, but they made it!  Now there are just a bunch of big boxes up there waiting to be installed!  I have new pictures of the tile and the flooring/doors:

01/28/10 – Progress, Interior finishes

The house is making progress.  They started some of the trim work on the inside ceilings.  They prepped the floors for the hardwood (to be installed Monday 2/1).  We ran into a little roadblock with the exterior stone, but we are getting a bid for the installation tomorrow from Tim Bates.  I am excited for that to begin because then the exterior of the house will look complete!  The tile is done on the floors, they will start on the walls next.  Cabinets to be deliver on the 5th!  Here are some pictures:

01/25/10 – First Coat of Paint

The first coat of paint has been done today!  It is a little difficult to see since there are no lights on in the house yet.  They use their own lighting to paint, but they took it with them tonight when we were there, so it was hard to see.  I’ll go back up tomorrow and try to get a better look at it.  So far, what I have seen, I like it!  We also got the hardwood in on Friday!  We were really worried about bc we thought it was going to be late, but ended up getting there when we needed it.  The tile guy is starting (Tom Cox) this week.  He started installing the concrete board and  sloping the shower.  He should be halfway finished on Friday this week.  The stone fireplace guy is getting started on Tuesday (tomorrow) (Tim Bates).  The exterior stone guy (Mark Hasler) is also starting tomorrow on the outside of the house.  We have lots of other selections and purchases to make (interior and exterior lighting, mirrors, etc.)  The cabinets are supposed to come in on February 5th.  At little later than we expected, but nothing we can do about it.  Interior doors will be delivered Wednesday.  Things are moving very quickly at the house this week!  Lots of stuff going on all at once.  I also think that the interior trim guys are supposed to do work this week too.  Hopefully everyone can stay out of each other’s way!  The other major issue we have to deal with is the lack of bridge.  The bridge people are meeting with us on Wednesday.  They don’t want to start digging/construction in the rain, so we are PRAYING for good weather!!! I know that all the subcontractors are going nuts driving through the creek and getting all muddy…It is a pain.  The drywall guy popped a tire on the driveway and we have already lost a tire and a muffler on the driveway too!!! Uggh.  We need a jeep just to get up the hill!  The middle of January is no fun.  Hoping the weather will start looking up soon though.  I”m going to take more pictures and post them of the paint as soon as I get some good lighting up there!

01/15/10 – More Updates

We delivered the front doors up to the house last night.  Bob and Eric helped us.  Getting it up the driveway was pretty easy in the truck.  They had the temporary heat on in the house because of mudding the walls and it was so HOT in there.  We are worried about the delay in the hardwood and the cabinetry.  Just crossing our fingers it doesn’t hold them up too much.  Maybe they can do the ceiling trim, painting, installing doors, etc while waiting for the wood and cabinets.  Tile could also be done I guess because that will be one more thing out of the way!  I selected all the paint colors for the house today too.  The most crazy color I have is for the laundry room and it is call cool lagoon.  It is a medium aqua green color.  I think it will look so bright and clean in there!  I can’t wait to see how everything comes together!!!  We still need to select a bar sink and faucet and I need to find some coat hooks for the mud room cubby area.  Everything is happening so fast.  There is only about 2.5 months til closing! WOO HOO!

01/05/10 – Drywall is Hung

The drywall is completely hung on the house now.  Mudding and Taping will come next!  The house is starting to feel like a house now that you cannot see all the way through from one end to another!  I  love the ceilings.  They look great and just how I pictured them.  We are starting to pick out carpet and tile and lots of other selection things like lighting, fans etc.  I even went out looking for a new kitchen table and end tables for the great room!  I am meeting Home depot out there tomorrow to get the measurements finished for the cabinetry so they can release our order!  This is so exciting.

The house is starting to come together.  it is fully bricked now.  We just need to get the stone on and it should look complete from the outside.  They have started the interior drywall as of Wednesday 12/30/09.  I haven’t been up to see it, but Trent said the ceilings have been done first and are looking really good!  Here are a few pictures of the most recent progress.

12/12/09 – Roofing, Electric and Brick – Oh My!

The Brick is almost completely finished.  I am amazed how those guys work out there with how frigid it is outside…Brrr…Things are moving so quickly right now.  We have had a couple of setbacks with the plumbing (shower heads too high and in the wrong spot, hose bibs in the wrong spot etc.), but we are going back out to mark where we want them and should get them fixed quickly.  They have also completed the electric work on the house.  It only took a couple of days and they were done!  We also got our 2 big 8 foot doors in.  They were delivered to Bob and Kathy’s because I have to stain them.  They looked beautiful.  They driver only had himself and the box with my and Amanda’s doors in it weighed 1000lbs!  We ended up having to break down the crate and taking each separate piece of each door out of the box and carried it up the driveway and to the basement!  It was a big ordeal and very inconvenient.  Later that evening as I was preparing to stain the door, Trent came in and with his eye for detail noticed that the door was hinged the wrong way!!!  We had to call the door company and they are shipping us a new one right away….It is always something!!!  Trent is beginning to wire for an alarm system today, so as soon as that is complete, they will start drywalling on Monday!  We’ll actually have walls soon!  I would guess they will be doing the stone on the exterior of the house soon too, once the bricking is finished.  Things are moving very quickly all of a sudden.  It feels as if everything is happening at once now.  We are coordinating, hardwood floors, cabinetry, tile, doors, etc….I’m sure it will only get more chaotic before it gets less! LOL  Just have to keep our eyes on the prize! :-)

12/03/09 – Stamped Porch

We have a stamped concrete porch now.  I am loving it.  It is the only finished product so far I’ve been able to see.  I am so happy with the results and how it turned out.  I was a little scared since it is colored and all, but I’m glad we made the selection we did and listened to the artistic opinion of the stamper!  I think it will all tie in together nicely once we get the walkway finished and the brick and stone is up on the house.  They started bricking the right side of the house today and we meet with the electrician on Monday morning to go over our electric plan.  They should begin drywall shortly after the electric work is complete.  We have chosen someone to do the stone on the interior fireplace, now I just need to select the stone to use!  So many decisions, so little time!!!  I will be breathing a big sigh of relief once this is all finished.  It is moving so quickly right now.  I feel like we are on a roller coaster going 90 miles and hour!!! WOO HOO!

We have a lot going on right now.  They are getting ready to pour the front porch tomorrow morning and then stamp the concrete.  We have so many selections to make on tile, hardwood, granite, etc.  Hopefully they will be bricking soon because our decking is in and needs to be delivered.  The exterior doors are still waiting to be installed too.  The HVAC guy was supposed to move our main trunk line closer to the I-beam in the basement and he actually moved it further away!  Hopefully Pat (the foreman) can get out there in a day or so to get this corrected.  Here are some new pictures of the house. It is completely shingled now and we have some full shots of it now :-)

11/18/09 – Interior Framing and Shingles

The interior walls are up now!  They also have all the windows installed.  The roof is complete, they just have to put the shingles on and we’ll be completely under roof!  Things are starting to really take shape now!  We can see where all the rooms, closets, walls, doorways, etc are now.  I haven’t been out to see it all yet, but Trent took some pictures.  I’ll be updating the photos in the next few days so be on the look out for them.  The exterior doors have also been delivered, but not sure when they will be installed.  Loving this progress!
